Bettany Hughes concludes her journey around Bulgaria's ancient wonders and this time she explores the nation's enduring legacy of Christianity through the Orthodox Easter celebrations in the village of Veliko Tarnovo. Bettany visits the historically diverse city of Plovdiv with its vast and well-preserved Roman theatre, and the fourth-century Bishop's Basilica with over 2,000 square metres of magnificent mosaic floors which lay hidden for more than 1,000 years. Finally, she travels to the Valley of the Roses for the annual Festival in Kazanlak, which combines old Thracian traditions with a celebration of the highly prized ancient Damask rose.
