Birdcage
Nigel Havers presides as five sellers aim to get the best price for their items, including a birdcage, marriage cloth, model car, arcade horse and a picture of Earth from space.
Nigel Havers welcomes sellers of collectibles and curiosities to the Bidding Room's home in Edinburgh, where they ply their wares to five dealers.
First through the doors is Lucas, with a sizeable birdcage he once gifted to his mother – and her canaries. The birds have all flown the nest and their impressive home is now on the market. The gothic style cage may not be as old as Lucas once thought, but does that mean he’ll let it go 'cheep'?
Next in is Sharon, hoping to match-make her Italian marriage cloth to the right dealer and raise some funds for an animal rescue charity.
Third to wheel into Edinburgh HQ is Andrew, with a little red pedal car. Bought by his late wife six years ago, there were grand plans to turn it into a garden planter, but now Andrew wants to sell it on, with any proceedings being used in his wife’s memory.
Fourth to arrive at in the room is Louanne, with a fairground-style attraction to give the dealers a run for their money. The amusement arcade racehorse is a keen reminder of Louanne’s seaside summers, but it’s been forlorn in the garden for too long now. Which of the dealers, and their bids, will be in the running to give the horse a new home?
Finally, it’s John, with a one-off collection of items signed by NASA astronauts and gifted to John’s grandfather. The pieces, including a photograph of Earth from space, have the potential to reach an out-of-this world sale price, but will any of the dealers make the giant leap for them?
The dealers today are Ian, Melissa, Sam, Jo and James.
