Cash Till
Nigel Havers presides as five sellers aim for the best price for their items, including 1950s swimwear, a WWI memorial sculpture, mourning jewellery, a brass till and a rare fashion doll.
Nigel Havers welcomes sellers of collectibles and curiosities to the Bidding Room's home in Edinburgh, where they ply their wares to five dealers.
First through the doors of is Alison with some 1950s swimwear. The swimming costume and sunglasses hold fond memories for Alison of her late mother, but the time has come to move on some of her possessions. The collectability of vintage clothing may come as a surprise to Alison, but the dealers should see the value in the fashion items. Which one of them will dive in first?
Next to arrive is Bill, with a piece of military history. His sculpture made from WWI shrapnel was produced as part of a limited edition run to raise funds for a memorial statue, and the emotive piece embodies many wartime stories.
Third to arrive at Edinburgh HQ is Sam, with a necklace that could appeal to any mourning jewellery collector, including auctioneer Simon. The glass locket with an intriguing newspaper cutting and pressed edelweiss flower was bought at an antique shop in Norfolk, but will Simon let it pass it through his hands to allow the dealers a chance to own it?
Claire is next in, hoping to ring up some big profits for her 19th-century brass cash register. Bought to furnish her apothecary-style health food store, her plans for the shop have since changed, so she鈥檚 ready to move the till on. Will there be a big 'ker-ching' ringing out from the room?
Finally, it鈥檚 Malcolm, with a very special companion that鈥檚 been with him for 50 years. The 1970s Black Cindy doll was released as a limited run in the UK, and as a young sales rep, it was Malcolm鈥檚 job to sell the doll to potential retailers. He鈥檚 hoping this now very rare doll, and its important social history, will find a buyer amongst the dealers.
Today, the dealers are Melissa, Viki, Jon, Jo and James.
