Farming focus after spine injury

Farming focus at Lylehill Farm in Templepatrick after a spine injury, Stonebridge Farm in Crossgar scoops top UK pig award and Dairy Day kicks off in Cork.

Presenter, Nicola Weir, travels to Lylehill Farm in Templepatrick to speak to Jon-Jo Bright about his beef, lamb and pedigree horse enterprises. Jon-Jo was a champion jockey until a fall in 2013 left him with severe spinal injuries. But he hasn’t let a wheelchair get in the way of building the family’s farm business. Environment and Agriculture Correspondent Louise Cullen gives an update on the latest in the farming tax changes that have seen protests in Belfast and London and Nicola congratulates Robbie Neill, owner of Stonebridge Farm in Crossgar, who beat Jeremy Clarkson to pick up the UK Pedigree Pig Breeder of the Year in London. Sinclair Mayne from AFBI explains more about the remarkable 25 year history of Grasscheck in Northern Ireland which started on just three farms but now sees over 50 farmers submit their grass growth statistics to a central bank – giving vital information about the change in farming’s most important natural ingredient. And finally, Nicola heads to Cork to speak to Lorcan Roche Kelly from the Irish Farmers Journal about Dairy Day.
