Good morning. It’s 9:14pm – I’m always last minute and I’m doing a mad dash to make the last entry at the gym. Phew, yes, I’m there 9:15, bang on.  But hold on, the door is locked! I’m certain I’m on time for the last entry! I was really looking forward to this workout—it’s become a key part of my self-care plan.

I’ve been through a lot and I’m still navigating tough times. I’ve learned to recognise when something feels unfair.

The following morning, I go in to see the manager. I’ve missed a moment of wellbeing that’s invaluable.

The manager - hats off to him – he offered to replay the CCTV footage. And there it was: yep, 9:15pm, and I was nowhere to be seen. The attendant had locked up at the right time. I’d bungled my way to the door five minutes later at 9:20pm.

You know that moment when you think, Am I losing my mind … my sense of reality? I ask: can we see another angle?—and there it was. The CCTV clock in the first instance was five minutes fast. I hadn’t been late after all.  It was a relief; an apology came instantly.

Sometimes, you have to be persistent and stand up for what you see to be right. The facts of a situation can be difficult to pin down, but it’s important to be open to seeing a different perspective, particularly when much greater matters than a gym session are at stake.

My Lord, make us steadfast in pursuing the truth in life’s significant moments. Open for us the resources and light to endure the adversity that often comes in that pursuit, and please my Lord let truth and justice prevail. Amin.
