Measuring as much as 4m from wingtip to wingtip, the sunfish holds the record for being the heaviest bony fish in the ocean. Sunfish spend much of their time at depth, feeding on jellyfish in the cold waters. However, on regular occasions they come to the surface to warm up and find their own personal cleaning station. They're on the search for kelp plants not shelter, but because here they can find a particular kind of fish that only lives in such places - small halfmoon fish. These fish clean the sunfish of all parasites that they can find growing on their skin. If the halfmoons don't finish the job, there's a more drastic solution. Gulls rest on the floating kelp and if the sunfish sends the right signals, the gulls will investigate. Their beaks can dig out the most stubborn parasites.
