Here to stay
A pint and a pastie are all Bill Oddie needs... to go birding in the pub carpark! He is right on the edge of the Hale Estuary. It is peaceful and there are birds snoozing and preening. The bird he's looking for is the little egret. They have black legs and very yellow feet that makes them look as if they've walked through yellow paint. Bill counts a group of eight little egrets. When he started birdwatching there probably weren't many more than eight little egrets ever recorded in the whole UK. They are common around the Mediterranean and southern Europe, and now they've moved north and are breeding in the UK. Every year, there are more and more of them and whatever the reason, it looks like the little egrets are here to stay.
