The Belfast Harp Festival of 1792

A discussion of Belfast鈥檚 role in the preservation of the harp tradition.

In 1792, a Harp Festival was held in the Exchange Room in Belfast.

Ten harpers played at the event, most of whom were over the age of sixty and six of whom were blind.

Edward Bunting was commissioned to capture the melodies played by the harpists at the festival - and the festival organisers published a collection of these songs.
