An amazing collection of Allosaurus bones shows just how quickly a baby dinosaur could grow. Dr Paul Bybee looks at Allosaurus thigh bones. The smallest bone is about 18cm in length and would probably belong to a dinosaur about a metre and a half in length, standing about a metre or so off the ground. The largest bone is from a sub-adult. In life it was probably close to 8 metres in length and standing off the ground about 2.5m. Thin sections of Allosaurus bone can be compared to crocodile and bird bones. They are very similar to bird bones, so Allosaurus probably grew very rapidly like a bird.
