With the Allied invasion of Sicily just weeks away, Operation Mincemeat’s planners, Ewen Montagu and Charles Cholmondeley, visit the morgue to put the finishing touches to Major William Martin’s body.

His pockets are stuffed with fake love letters from a non-existent girlfriend. A briefcase is filled with the top secret – and also fake - documents hinting that the real target of the invasion is not Sicily but Greece.

His body is finally inserted into a specially-designed steel canister labelled Optical Instruments and bolted shut. The dead Welsh tramp who has become Major Martin of the Royal Marines is now ready to go to war – and change the course of history.
