Flotsam and jetsam

Flying fish seem to be on every menu, so they spend most of their life on the run or finding places to hide. They lay their eggs on patches of flotsam, which provide good shelter for their offspring. Unfortunately, predators know to check out these areas to see what's around, so often trail the flotsam for weeks. These small patches of shelter can be an important refuge, so some are well guarded by their occupants.
