Unemployment hits a 17-year high and UK Coal fined over mining fatalities

Unemployment has risen to 2.64m, the highest level for 17 years. UK Coal has been ordered to pay 拢1.2m over the deaths of four miners, including a Derbyshire man.

Unemployment has risen to 2.64m, the highest level for 17 years. The number went up by 128,000 in the three months to October. Colin speaks to Steve Dawson, a Derby man who is motivated, experienced and qualified yet is struggling to find work.

UK Coal has been ordered to pay 拢1.2m over the deaths of four miners, including a Derbyshire man.

Paul Hunt from Swadlincote and two others died at Daw Mill colliery near Coventry and one man died at Wellbeck Colliery in Nottinghamshire between 2006 and 2007.
