Queen Elizabeth's Coronation Tour of Wales 1953

Sian Williams travels across Wales tracking down people who were caught on camera during the Queen's Coronation Tour of Wales in 1953. During her whistle stop visit amatuer film makers captured the rapturous welcome she received. Much of this forgotten footage hasn't been seen on television before and shows in vivid colour how people reacted to seeing their new Queen in the flesh.
Guided by rare archive film, which was shot in glorious colour by amateur film-makers, Sian meets some of the tens of thousands
of people who lined the streets for a momentuous first glimpse of the young Queen Elizabeth as her Coronation tour arrived in
Wales.
She hears how one policeman on duty in Llanelli disobeyed orders to ensure the crowd had a better view, and the identical twins from Cardiff who claim the Queen's car actually slowed down to allow her to wave to them.
And, what happened to the many 'Coronation Queens' who were crowned in Wales that summer? Sian hears from Honora Pendrous who six decades ago brought some Royal glitz and glamour of her own to public celebrations in Newport.
