Did You Know?

The East Somerset Railway was founded by renowned wildlife painter and conservationist David Shepherd in 1971 as a place to base the two engines (BR standard-class 9F No 92203 and standard-class 4MT No 75029) he had bought from British Rail in 1967. Shepherd was awarded the CBE in 2008 for services to conservation.
