Can you Couperin? Part 2!
Finished part 1? Well done you!
Tackle part II of Richard Sisson's lip-clipping libretto!
So, you've performed part 1 perfectly (hopefully beyond 'Service Standards'), and ready for part 2?
Press play and here we go with the third verse!
Verse le troisième
Any band’ll tell you it’s a scandal just what Handel asks a valve-less horn to cope with, all those trills give them a fit –
And whether Water Music ever ought to sound like total slaughter, I’m not sure but what I do know is there’s always loads of spit;
Meanwhile on stage it was the age of page on page of endless Singspiel, oh yes Handel churned it out all right for London’s opera junkies –
Have you ever got the plot, the who the when the where the what, though? Well me neither and I’m sure what’s more you never gave a monkey’s!
Don’t waste ammo on that Rameau, gram for gram oh he could punch his weight and for the record let us state he was a worthy foe;
But Monsieur Lully, far less coolly, like a fool he hit his foot and so could not compete and fight his seat could not go toe to toe!
And a composer that I know’s a close-ish rival to my Francois that’s mein liebe Heinrich Biber – there’s a talent you could trust in;
But before you play his score make your assurance double sure and heck just check he’s not related to that other one called Justin…
