End of the miners' strike in 1985
A description of the aftermath of the 1984-1985 coal strike in Blaengarw, using personal testimony and archive. The footage shows the march of the Maerdy miners back to work at the end of the strike in March 1985. It was then announced that Ocean Colliery in Blaengarw would close - the end of an era in the valleys town. On the last day of the pit, the whole town came out in a march through Blaengarw, including a ceremonial burning of the National Coal Board flag outside the mine. Includes archive of miners working underground on their final shift.
