The Rugby Football Union’s Rugby Development Officer for Central Yorkshire, Gregg Bayliss, said silent Sundays have been introduced in youth rugby to remind parents of the sport's "core values".

Parents at youth rugby matches in Yorkshire have been asked not to shout, cheer or even clap at games on the next two Sundays in an effort to improve touchline behaviour.

Mr Bayliss added that there has been "a mixed reaction" from people, and that some parents see it "as punishment".

However, he said the silent Sundays will improve the game significantly for players and referees.
