Wild pandas on the rise
China's panda population is on the rise according to a report by the State Forestry Administration, which shows numbers in the country have grown by 268 to a total of 1864 since the last survey ending in 2003.
Zoologist Jules Howard told 5 live Breakfast that it is "fantastic news" for panda lovers although the small rise highlights the "difficult process" of conservation.
He said despite the apparent decline in threats such as illegal poaching, "horny pandas" looking for a mate are increasingly in danger from roads as China expands through their habitat.
