Mizanur Rahman: Deradicalisation programme didn鈥檛 work
Mizunar Rahman was sentenced to six years in jail for saying that British soldiers should return from Iraq in body bags. After serving three years he was put on a deradicalisation programme.
The Prevent strategy is a government funded programme designed to turn young Muslims away from support for ISIS or other radical Islamic terrorist groups.
But Mizunar said the programme was "never going to work". He said he would turn up, "play pool" and then go home.
Mizunar said if he expressed his views to his programme mentor he felt like he would "go to prison" because the mentor seemed like an 'intelligence gatherer.'
A Home Office spokesperson said: "This Government fundamentally revised the Prevent strategy in 2011 to ensure it challenges terrorist ideology, supports people who are vulnerable to being drawn into terrorism and works with sectors and institutions where there are risks of radicalisation.鈥
