"Why are you moving slow ... to stop new infection?”

‘Africa Behind’, written and performed by Moses Nsubuga and Stigmaless Band.

Ugandan musician Moses Nsubuga (aka Supercharger) discovered he was HIV+ in 1994. Six years later Moses became so ill that his family took him from Kampala to his village for burial. En route they bought a coffin for his body. Luckily his sister had heard about the work of Dr Peter Mugyenyi and the Joint Clinical Research Centre in Kampala. She took Moses back to the city where he was put on effective treatment. Since then Moses has been an HIV/AIDS activist and campaigner.

He raises awareness about the importance for patients to adhere to their antiretroviral treatment and battles the stigma which still surrounds people with HIV/AIDS in Uganda. He set up a band of child and teenage singers and dancers, all of whom were born with HIV. This is Stigmaless Band who perform HIV awareness numbers in Uganda and around the world. Original members are now in their late twenties.
