Pensioner: 'I'll never forget' surprise 100th birthday party

A widow with no surviving family says good Samaritans who attended a surprise party to celebrate her 100th birthday have given her a day she will "never forget".

Winnie Blagden received 16,000 birthday cards from around the world after a ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Radio Sheffield Facebook campaign went viral.

She was also treated to a champagne reception and entertainment from local musicians and schoolchildren at Sheffield Town Hall.

"They opened one of the doors and it was full of people. I couldn't know who they all were, I just looked and did see some of them I did know," said Blagden.

"I just can't understand what the fuss is all about. They say it's ‘because you got to hundred' but you just carry on, day after day until you get to it. There's nothing special about it to me" she added.
