Religious Traditions
Vat Purnima is being carried out in India. It's a tradition where married women fast, get together, tie threads around a banyan tree and offer prayers. All this is performed for the long life of their husbands. Karva Chauth is a similar, a one day Hindu festival where married women fast from sunrise to moonrise for the safety and longevity of their husbands. Are traditions like these sexist? Sangeeta who fasts for her husbands longevity admits she thinks it's sexist but cannot stop practising.
