#distractinglysexy? Female scientists’ photo fight back
Female scientists around the world have posted tongue-in-cheek pictures of themselves at work in response to controversial comments by a Nobel prize-winning British scientist.
Sir Tim Hunt, 72, told a conference in South Korea that "three things happen when [women] are in the lab: you fall in love with them, they fall in love with you, and when you criticise them they cry."
The comments sparked a flurry of photographs of female scientists at work on social media, using the hashtag ‘#distractinglysexy’. Sir Tim has since resigned from his position as an honorary professor at University College London (UCL).
Dr Elisabetta Groppelli,a virologist who specialises in HIV research at the same institution, joined Joanna Gosling and ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Trending’s Anne-Marie Tomchak to discuss the comments – and the reaction to them.
