With the London Sinfonietta conducted by Thierry Fischer. Christian Mason was mentored by Boulez at the Lucerne Festival Academy and has already written a work for him. The title explores what Boulez as a figure means to Mason, as 鈥榓n archetype and a master of fine details鈥�. 鈥楽omeone once told me that 鈥渢ime doesn鈥檛 exist for Boulez any more鈥�,鈥� he says. 鈥業 liked that idea.鈥� He also liked and remembered the Blake poem, 鈥楾o see a World in a Grain of Sand鈥�. 鈥業t connected the Boulezian ideas of detail, precision and eternity.鈥� Mason鈥檚 orchestration echoes the piano, harp, percussion trio in Boulez鈥檚 Sur incises, with each instrumental family from the chamber orchestra providing a background colour. 鈥楿sually I add lots of unusual instruments. With this one I wanted purity and primary colours.鈥�
