Hunger: War And Conflict

A look at war and its impact on famine and hunger.

A look at war and its impact on famine and hunger. At the end of 2000 the United Nations estimated that conflict had lead 24 million people without enough food. War displaces people and removes its producers through conscription at a time when people need food most. Fields are often burnt and livestock killed, while moving humanitarian aid into affected regions also leads to hunger. Corruption in war-torn countries has also been linked to both poverty and hunger.
