Mauritania and Senegal
Following a border incident between the two former French colonies in May 1989, over 90,000 Senegalese were expelled from Mauritania. During the mass expulsion, over 100,000 Mauritanians in Senegal were 'repatriated' to Mauritania.
Eyewitnesses give accounts of their scramble to safety.
