Do you support the strike by junior doctors?
Thousands of junior doctors in England walked out in a strike over pay and working conditions. It's the first time they've done this in some 40 years - the last was in 1975. The strike means some 4,000 routine treatments, things like knee and hip operations, have had to be cancelled. Doctors say the new contracts the government's bringing in will compromise patient safety. The government says it wants a seven day NHS. So it's proposing to give doctors an 11 per cent pay rise and extend OFFICIAL working hours to cover weekends. Doctors DO work weekends at the moment, obviously, but it counts as overtime, so extra money. Doctors say it's not just about the money, it's about patient safety. At the moment hospitals which breach working hours are fined. Doctors say if that's taken away it could compromise care. Where do Asian Networks listeners sympathies lie? Nihal speaks to two junior doctors and a caller whose mother has just come out of hospital.
