JG Ballard's New Vision of America
Science poetry not science fiction is one critic's description of JG Ballard's new novel
After the ecological collapse of America, there is – proposes JG Ballard in his latest novel, Hello America – a mass reverse-migration leaving the continent deserted. Then, in 2110, a group of scientists set off to rediscover their ancestral continent.
Also on the programme: an exhibition of furniture and artefacts designed by Sir Gordon Russell and his followers opens at the Design Centre, London; an interview with Australian pianist and band leader Graeme Bell, who first played in London in the 1940s and who is visiting again with his current band; and why artists and writers have such an important place in Polish society.
