'Murdered By My Father' cast on honour-based violence
Inspired by real events, the British-Asian drama 'Murdered By My Father' tells the story of the so-called 'honour' killing of a 17-year-old girl by her father. It explores the dynamics of an Asian family, and how the concept of 'honour' can quickly turn love and loyalty into violence and hatred. Over 12,000 honour based crimes have been reported since 2010 and 29 murders committed in the past five years. Writer of the drama Vinay Patel, actors Mawaan Rizwan and Sonia Kiran Sawar, and Jasvinder Sanghera from the charity for honour-based victims Karma Nirvana, talk to Nihal about the issue
