One of the earliest symptoms of public alarm about the coronavirus outbreak was the panic buying of toilet paper. Weeks on, it's still hard to find. But it turns out that there are precedents. Joshua Thorpe has been investigating the Great 1970s Toilet Paper Crisis in Hawaii.
