Lost Time

Exploring the time lost by many LGBTQ+ people before they can truly be themselves

Many LGBTQ+ people鈥檚 view around the progress we鈥檝e made as a society with regard to queer acceptance has a bittersweet tinge. Whilst of course being very happy about this progress, many wish that they鈥檇 grown up in a time when they could鈥檝e been themselves sooner. There is an optimism about the future, but also a sense of sadness and loss. Usually, LGBTQ+ people don鈥檛 begin their lives living as the person they truly are, instead trying to blend in, for fear of reprisal or admonishment. This can mean that many experiences are delayed, to be gained later in life, once issues of self-acceptance and stigmatisation are overcome. In speaking to four members of Birmingham鈥檚 LGBTQ+ community, Lost Time explores this notion.
