‘Suu Kyi should pass power to younger leaders’
Myanmar’s ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi must be released from detention but she should also pass the mantel of political power to a younger generation, political analyst Khin Saw Win has said.
“I think the aura of the icon has pretty well worn off and I think it’s time to pass the mantle to younger leaders and not hog the show so much,” he told ̳ Hardtalk.
Protests demanding the release of detained elected leaders have been taking across Myanmar, also known as Burma, since the 1 February military coup.
According to the UN Human Rights Office more than 54 people have died since the protests began, but other reports place the figure higher.
