Iraq's environmental tragedy
In the early 1990s, Saddam Hussein ordered the draining of southern Iraq's great marshes. It was one of the biggest environmental disasters of the twentieth century.
Iraqi engineer Azzam Alwash spoke to Witness History about his memories of the area as a boy, as well as the impact that the draining had on an ancient way of life.
