Protests led by truck drivers in Ottawa continue to cause congestion and disruption on the city's downtown area. Up to 500 trucks are estimated to be there and residents say they're fed up with the noise of revving engines, horns blaring, piles of rubbish and the gridlock.聽The mayor, Jim Watson, has said the demonstrations are out of control, and has declared a state of emergency.聽The lorry drivers have been rallying against Canada's Covid vaccine rules.

The former police chief of Ottawa Charles Bordeleau outlines his thoughts on whether an interim injunction by a court in Ottawa to stop truck drivers honking their horns was sufficient action in helping control the protests. He says that even if extra arrest powers are granted to the police, he's not sure if the order will be enforceable, and that the police are keen to bring the protest to a close by negotiation, rather than incite further disruption.
