As Andrew has to get a replacement 'ReSPECT' form for Mum, he talks about what it is and why it's so important
Mum's spent the week in bed with a deep tissue injury, similar to a pressure sore. The nurses are worried that, unless it heals, she's in danger of infection. For her son it underlines the importance of discussing, in advance, the needs of people living with dementia. Carolyn's unable to move without being hoisted and hasn't been able to communicate her wishes for a number of years. Andrew spends much of the day arranging a new 'ReSPECT' form. This is usually placed in prominent view at the entrance to the house but the original one had recently gone missing. He discusses what it is and why it matters - a set of personal recommendations for the care and treatment of someone who can't make or express their own choices, agreed between the family and health and care professionals. Mum and Me: The Dementia Diary was originally broadcast on 成人论坛 Radio Leeds.
