Downhill skateboarding across Europe
When the father of their friend Jenny died suddenly, Anna Pixner and Alejandra Cardenas felt like they needed to do their bit to help. Jenny was struggling, suffering from depression and lost her job. She decided to leave home to go and live in her van, while also competing in skateboard racing fulltime.
Anna, Alejandra and two other friends were worried about her welfare, so decided to join her on a 3500 mile journey to Sumela – an ancient monastery built in AD386 in the Pontic mountains of Turkey. The journey was turned into a documentary film called Woolf Women.
Anna and Alejandra join Caroline Barker to discuss the challenge, the sport of downhill skateboarding, and whether it will one day be in the Olympics.
