The Namibian doctor who holds a unique place in World Cup history
Rudie van Vuuren is the only man to play at both the Rugby World Cup and Cricket World Cup.
Rudie van Vuuren made history when he represented Namibia at two World Cups in 2003 – the Cricket World Cup in South Africa before the Rugby World Cup in Australia later that year.
This unique feat saw the Namibian become the first and only man to compete in both competitions.
It was all achieved alongside his day job as a doctor – a profession which has included a role as the President of Namibia’s personal physician.
³ÉÈËÂÛ̳’s Piers Edwards went to visit van Vuuren on his wildlife sanctuary outside Namibia’s capital Windhoek where he recalls a sit-down chat with India’s Sachin Tendulkar, how he combined being a full-time doctor with his sport and why wildlife conservation is a passion close to his heart.
