Worlds Apart - A family separated by the Israel-Gaza war
Amani Ahmed travelled to the UK from Gaza just a few days before war broke out. Her husband and children remain in the territory and she has little or no contact with them.
The world was shocked and appalled by the events of October the 7th - when Hamas gunmen attacked Israeli communities and killed more than 1,400 people. Just a few days earlier, Amani Ahmed had been in Gaza with her husband and three children - aged 8, 13 and 15. Completely unaware that war was about to break out, she left on October the 5th to travel to the UK to study. Since then, Israeli military action has killed thousands of people in Gaza. Her family's home has been damaged in an air strike and she's had to watch as footage of her young, traumatised son went viral. For this episode of 5 Minutes On, Amani has been speaking to the 成人论坛 World Service's Population Reporter Stephanie Hegarty about how she's coping being separated from her family.
