Carlisle Roman dig snail dye find is a UK first
Archaeologists have unearthed a purple dye worn by emperors at the city's Cricket club. Analysis has confirmed it's Tyrian purple, which was the most expensive colour in the Roman Empire, it was three times more expensive than gold. With this discovery, it's increasingly looking like Carlisle was at the centre of power politics in Roman Britain.
