ANDYSMANCLUB: 'it's men talking to men' about 'the silent killer', suicide.
Organiser of charity football match raises awareness of a mental health club for men.
Darius Bradley, spoke to Radio 5 live about how a suicide prevention charity designed to help men, has enabled him to deal with his grief and mental health issues, after his brother, Jordan, took his own life in 2019.
ANDYSMANCLUB is a support group which encourages men to talk openly to other men, about their problems and mental wellbeing.
Speaking to Drive's Clare McDonnell, Darius said he's really benefited from attending the peer-to-peer sessions and has seen how the club has also helped others.
As a way of giving back, Darius has been organising football matches to raise money and awareness of the charity and the work they do.
Darius said, "being able to sit in a group and seeing you aren't the only one going through what you're going through, is massive."
On reflection, Darius said "I believe, If my brother had known about an ANDYSMANCLUB, I'd still have my brother."
One recent charity fundraising match he organised, had 65 men take a turn on the pitch, not just to play football, but to make a statement. The 90-minute match also symbolises how one man commits suicide every ninety- minutes.
Darius is keen to reduce the stigma surrounding men's mental health and suicide by encouraging men to talk openly about how they are feeling. He says "If there's someone you think needs an arm around them, suggest ANDYSMANCLUB.
