Ukraine's drone hunters
Some drones are small enough to attack and kill individual soldiers; others can carry bombs large enough to take out an armoured vehicle.
In the last year, Ukraine鈥檚 battlefields have been transformed by drones. Some are small enough to attack and kill individual soldiers, and others can carry bombs large enough to take out an armoured vehicle. Both Russia and Ukraine are using them. Russia has a six to one advantage, but the Ukranian army claims its drones have the technological edge. Kyiv has a target to produce a million attack and surveillance drones this year alone.
The head of the British military, Admiral Sir Tony Radakin says the UK鈥檚 armed forces can learn a lot from Ukraine on how to fight future wars. He says that he wants an army of 鈥渂attalions of one way attack drones鈥.
Vehicles and sometimes individual soldiers now carry drone detection or jamming equipment on the front line. For this episode of our 5 Minutes On podcast, our correspondent Quentin Sommerville has spent time with those drone teams on the front line.
