contender, as Elvis provided all the youth, energy and swagger that made the birth of Rock 鈥榥鈥 Roll so memorable.听 Sun Records boss Sam Phillips was heard to have said 鈥淚f I could find a white man who had the Negro sound and the Negro feel, I could make a billion dollars.鈥 Sam didn鈥檛 have to wait long, as during the summer of 1954, Elvis Presley recorded Arthur 鈥淏ig Boy鈥 Crudup鈥檚 vintage R & B song and without knowing it would change the face of popular music forever.
