Do you agree with John Peel that 鈥淭eenage Kicks鈥 is the best pop song ever? Does it remind you of youthful longings and teenage crushes?

howard clegg The importance of this song exists for me because of its honesty, musicaly it is so simple, but it's what you do with it that counts!
Andy Essex Classic... edgy and powerful with a sense of anger and Fergal delivered it with real energy.
Ann, Bristol Such a great song, works today just as well, if not more. It's got all the raw-ness of teenage lust, and the lyrics are perfect: simple, exactly how teenagers think.
Siobhan Simmonds 14 ,from Deal One of my favourite songs of all time.Even though I am 14.The Undertones are singing about what every teenager thinks. They are indie ledgends
Sara, West midlands Busted have not got what it takes to bring the song back to life.
The original is better.
andy, cheshunt herts i would agree with the late john peel that teenage kicks is best pop song ever ,but the undertones second song, get over you gives it a good run for its money.
Louie, Cheshire this is the best pop song ever. If you ever had a teenage crush... let the memorys flood back.
Pete If it's good enough for John Peel, it's good enough for me. Top.
James Wallis, KINGS LYNN One of the greatest songs of all time!
Bill Quigley, Chicago I was not aware of this song until after the death of John Peel. I read that Teenage Kicks was his favorite song and I found it on the online music service I subscribe to scratch my curiousity. I fell in love with the song instantly, a near-perfect 2-minute pop tune about young lust done in a great punk beat. It is now one of the tracks I listen to when I am working on my website.
liam from kendal well what more can i say that hasnt already been said?
without a shaddow of a doubt one of the simplest yet greatest songs ever made, direct and to the point with so much optimism about it.
understandable really why john peel adopted it instantly, as optimism in an ever chenign world was his view point.
next time you listen to it, think of peel and of all the artists he brought to the fore.
nelson/leeds formly of peterborough 1978.....13 years old and just about as full of it as anyone.Punk music was at it's start and I was there to soak it all up like a young soggy almost wet sponge. Tight jeans black T'shirt with "Anarchy" a few slits and pins. Greatest moments of my life.. Thought we would change the world / country / peterborough or just somthing about ourselves. It was a real time in my life and met some real dreamers, wonder where they are now. I hope there still like me looking for the ultimate nivarna...
Matt Hockney - Middlesbrough Yep without a doubt my favourite song. Fanatsic tune!
Simon Bath Just met a girl, heard this song and everything was alright
andy cheshunt herts teenage kicks is a all time classic, from a very underrated band
Cyndi Lauper, Glasgow I seen The Undertones on Top Of The Pops singing Teenage Kicks. The thing I remember about them was that they were wearing the same clothes as I was. Snorkels, cheap denims and really bad jumpers. You have to admire a band who wore their normal clothes to go on tv. As far as I know it's never been done before or since. Teenage Kicks is a great song.
Christian, Blackpool, Lancs Unargubly one of the greatest songs ever made, Busted (unargubly one of the worst bands ever manufactured) have made an embarassment of the good name of this song, a true classic.
ray k, Dudley I love this song and I miss Peel. Busted should feel ashamed.
Brian - Belfast I bought the single on the GV label back in 78 and it sounds as good today as it did 26 years ago
Kevin, SE London Teenage Kicks captured the essence of what every teenager wants - and what most adults have forgotten it was like at that age.
What a legacy of discoveries to leave behind, I doubt there will ever be anyone like it again - nor could there be.
Dorothy and Andrew Faulkner Very sad to lose you. You were and always will be a legend and sadly missed - God bless
xx
stephen curry, shouth shields nearly 50, love nothing but Beatles until I listened to John Peel. Got into Pink Floyd and punk and New Order - deeply saddened JP will be totally missed.
paul stoyles leeds I was a teenager in 1979. It had been a long hot summer and I had been a punk since 1977. I listened to John Peel to hear the new wave records. I will miss him - it's like losing a mate
Maureen - Liverpool I grew up with John Peel and shed many tears, when I heard the news of his sudden and far too premature death today; thank you John for the subtlety and poetic pose of your conversation and words of calm and wisdom in a mad world, the only place to go to hear the music of a generation with nowhere to express themselves........
no one will EVER be able to take your place - saying prayers for your family on their very sad loss.....my sorrow at your passing is infinitesmal compared to theirs - may it console them to know you were loved. Goodnight and God Bless 'Peely'
Wolfgang Duisberg Leverkusen, Germany I read in the paper this morning that John Peel has died and was deeply sorry, because I've been listening to his music for more than 20 years. He found new artists and sounds and inspired listeners like me. A pioneer of music has gone forever but he goes on living in my memory!
Geoff Norwich Can't believe he's gone,he is of my generation and made me feel I personally knew him. What a loss to music and broadcasting, my deepest sympathy to all his family RIP John
Paul East Kent Like so many people, I grew up with John Peel he is part of what formed my music tastes and now, that of my children. He was the sort of bloke I would have liked to have had a beer with.
I have been to Peru up there you are on a higher plain...a fitting place. Love to his wife and family.
Jason Martin, Leyton My Dad worked with John on Sounds Of The 70's and one of my earliest memories is of being at Peel Acres. I was about 4 at the time and John and Sheila had not started the family yet. John was just like an uncle, we didnt see him much but felt that he was part of us. Mum & Dad went to his birthday party a few months ago and I thought that they would become closer friends as the retirement years crept on. John you will be sadly missed and it just goes to show that you should treat every day as if its your last. All our love to Sheila and the kids, Jason, Alf, Mavis and Sam.
Raymond Curran Much saddened to hear of John Peel's death, but, with last night's rockin' tunes, can his spirit inform your playlist more often!?
Alistair, Birmingham John would probably cringe......but its like losing a favourite Uncle. You might not agree with every choice or everything he said BUT you still felt comfortable, something perhaps he would not want you to be. But that IS MUSIC it doesn't matter what I like, he played what we ALL liked and gave EVERYONE a chance. If he thought that the early Radio 1 played some commercial crap then what of today's mundane mass production? If John has gone to the same place as Lennon, Presley, Harrison and Cash, WOW book me on the next GIG!!
Mark occomore Crawley west sussex Great song,John will be sadly missed in the music and broadcast world.
June/Corby Northants No matter where I was listening to John I always felt happy the same feeling when you sit by a big open fire. A lovely honest speaking man not many of them about today.
Publican in London I remember a time when the late great Peel walked past my pub one Mayday afternoon. Myself and a couple of mates were outside keeping a look out for angry hippies on a smash and bash mission, when around the corner walked John taking his normal route to work, at the same time as hundreds of hippies on bikes sped up the street protesting whatever and blocking his path. On asking John for his views on the the protest. John replied, "Bloody cyclists deserve running over" This I think was Johns dry, straight talking wit. A great man. R.I.P
tom smith bournemouth I would like to take the focus away from John's involvment with punk and new wave.I was a protestant youth living in Belfast in the 70's. John introduced me to non-sectarian Irish folk, bands such as De Danaan, Boys Of the Lough, and The Cheftains. He gave me an appreciation of Irish culture and music that I wasn't getting a chance to hear. Also in recent years John played the best godamn Drum'n'Bass to be heard on radio.
Tracy Smith, Crawley Truely sad hearing the news. John Peel is a voice I remember well from my teenage years, with a wonderful dry sense of humour. Sadly missed.
Jack Eade, Haverfordwest Pembrokeshire What more can be said about John that has not already been said. The man was simply "music itself"
anthony howell The story in today's Independent summed up Peel perfectly and the comment about not interrupting records - "he would consider it a discourtesy to band and listener" should be heeded to less luminous DJ's on Radio 2.
Steve Lapwood, Witham How sorry I was to hear yesterday of John Peel's death. When someone dies that you know via film, tv, radio etc., you feel sad, but you didn't know them and that's as far as it goes, they're not your own personal friend or family. However, and I guess everybody feels this about different people, I woke up this morning and the World is a different place, as it was after the death of George Harrison. You'll be sadly missed John, though never forgotten. My deepest condolences to his wife and children.
Kevin, Southampton John was a very important outlet for new talent, he would always offer encouragement to all musicians at every level, i feel the country has lost a valued friend.
Nick Brooks / Camberley, Surrey Favourite Peely quip: '' Try as I might to influence my children's music taste, imagine my horror on finding a Spice Girls CD they'd left in my car player!...anyway, here's 'Half Man, Half Biscuit'...'' Priceless!
Don Birmingham As a teenager, I remember John Peel announcing the deaths of Ian Curtis fron Joy Division and John Lennon. It was done in such a beautifully personal yet respectful and understanding way from a guy, who in my opinion, was the greatest dj ever. It seems strangly poignant that such memories should come to mind on this occasion. I really wish his families well and want to thank them for such a wonderful man!!!
Lisa in Bramhall John Peel's Home Truths was the thing I looked forward to most on a Saturday morning - my showers will be all the poorer for his passing. He encompassed a real sense of acceptance of everyone and their views mingled with a sense of real irony and humour.
chris in teignmouth LEGEND, john you will be sorely missed, I look forward to listening to you on the other side..
James McParland/Dublin I assumed he'd be with us forever, perpetual Peel.
Richard. Coventry Went to see the Undertones 6 times and they are still the best pop band ever.
john cotterill great barr birmingham a great man of music and he will be greatly missed by thousands of music lovers
mary/Plymouth Busted version is a load of rubbish
Caroline Burnham-on-Crouch Teenage kicks is indeeed a great song, and as with good songs it lends itself to other interpretations. I think Busted are a very talented band and i think thier version is a little more fresh and zesty than The Undertones version sounds today. There is a tendency for bands to get very "precious" about thier work, it should be remembered that imitation is the highest form of flattery. if your music influences further musicians to develop surely that is a good thing.
Steve - Maidstone Impossible to Comprehend that a classic song like this only got to number 31.
Helen, Preston Why oh why is this song not 4 minutes longer - it never lasts long enough! One of the best songs ever written!
sean dentith/derry just pure perfection at its finest and cannot be improved in any way
