Was the 1930鈥檚 a decade of depression?
Professor Chris Wrigley at the University of Nottingham answered a listener鈥檚 query about a family member moving from South Wales to Loughborough to find work by arguing that not all of the UK suffered economic depression in the thirties. Indeed there were pockets of prosperity in the manufacturing areas of the Midlands and South East that were not dependent on exports but rather met domestic demand for cars and electrical goods in particular.
