The Arrow War
The Arrow War or the Second Opium War began in 1856. The Chinese boarded a British vessel suspicious of piracy and smuggling they captured 12 men and threw them into prison.
The English and the French joined forces and the Chinese capitulated. The allies demanded the right to embassies in Peking, a closed city at the time and legitimised the opium trade.
