The Rise of Bismark and Death of Palmerston
William I of Prussia ascended the throne of Frederick the Great and appointed Count Otto von Bismarck Minister-President of Prussia. Bismarck set out to unite the German States.
He also planned to win new territory for Germany. In 1864 the Schleswig-Holstein Question raised its head again and culminated in these Duchies being attached to Prussia. In the Seven Weeks War of 1866 Austria was crushed by Germany.
In 1865 Palmerston won another majority at a general election but by October of that year he was dead.
