POSITIVE AGEING
A demographic revolution is well underway.听 There are currently more than 10,000 people living in the UK who are over a hundred years old, and by 2043 that figure is set to rise to 90, 000.听 People are living longer.

Throughout this series Raj Persaud will be looking at some of the new issues evolving from the latest research into the psychology and neurology of ageing.听 If you want to share your views and experiences, please e-mail All In The Mind.

To begin, Raj Persaud asks how, as the number of people living into extreme old age is increasing dramatically, we can ensure that we live longer better?听 Does what we are learning in medicine about the mechanics of ageing effect our psychological thinking about age?

To discuss the psychology of well-being and positive ageing, Dr Raj Persaud is joined by Tom Kirkwood, Professor of Medicine and Head of the Department of Gerontology at the University of Newcastle; Felicia Huppert, Professor of Psychology at the University of Cambridge and Marion Bieber, founder and leader of a study group on Design for all Ages at the University of the Third Age

MENTAL HEALTH BILL
Next month, the parliamentary committee looking at the government's Mental Health Bill for England and Wales will publish its findings.听 The Bill has been criticised by many patients and professionals who are unhappy about proposals to compel people to receive treatment and detain those with personality disorders.

Dr Raj Persaud finds out how the approach in England and Wales compares with elsewhere, with John Dawson, Law Professor at Otago University in New Zealand who has studied international Mental Health legislation, and Rhona Brankin, Labour MSP and Deputy Health Minister in the Scottish Executive, who has responsibility for overseeing the introduction of the new Scottish Mental Health Act in October.

JURY PROFILING
Four weeks in and the judge and lawyers in the Michael Jackson trial are still whittling down hundreds of potential jurors to the necessary 12.听 Key players in this process are the jury consultants employed by both sides in an attempt to spot those who will and won't be favourable to their side of the argument.

Dr Raj Persaud talks to Dr Joy Stapp, a social psychologist and partner in Stapp Singleton, a trial consulting firm that has been employed by lawyers on hundreds of cases in America to talk about what is involved in the psychological profiling of jurors.
