"The Living World is the next best thing to being there. Our contributors are skilled naturalists who are able to reveal those fascinating facts about animals and plants that you don't always find in books. It's like having a personal guided tour of the countryside, without needing to leave the house."

| | | MS Oldenberg docking at Lundy island | Puffin Island
The island of Lundy is an听ideal home for many seabirds due to its high cliffs and the surrounding fish-rich seas. In fact, Lundy is the old Norse word for "puffin island".
Sitting听听off the North Devon coast at the mouth of the Bristol Channel,听Lundy's听cliffs were indeed once speckled with thousands of the distinctive looking black and white puffins with striking, brightly coloured heads and bills. Today there are just a few pairs of birds but Lundy's association with the puffin is so strong that just the thought of glimpsing one of these birds is enough to attract hundreds of visitors to the island every year.
Brett Westwood joins the wildlife warden on the island in the hope of sighting one of this year's breeding pairs and to hear what's being done to ensure this treasured bird has a future on Lundy.
