Out of body experience?

Virtual Archaeology

Handheld computers, wireless networks and online databases might not be the first things that spring to mind when the subject of archaeology is mentioned.

But these devices are all now being used in a major project aimed at distributing and analysing information about the discoveries being made at the ancient town of Silchester in Hampshire.

Professor Mike Fulford from Reading University and Mike Rains from York Archaeological Trust tell us about their system which uses the internet to allow archaeologists all over the country to see what they are finding at the dig, as the artefacts come out of the ground.

Out Of Body Experiences

Around 10% of the population have an out of body experience at some time, typically involving a sensation of floating and seeing their body from above.

This can occur as part of a near-death experience in life-threatening circumstances, for example following serious injury or during major surgery.

Despite the high incidence of these events, there is still a great deal of mystery surrounding what is actually happening.

Psychologist David Wilde from Manchester University and Dr Sam Parnia are both working to come up with a scientific explanation of the phenomenon.
