How can we make clean water available for everyone?

Explore The Material World with the All through听December, 成人论坛 Radio 4's weekly science programme The Material World is broadcasting a series of audience debates. The series is a co-production with the Open University and is designed to support the OU's Science in Context course, S250.

Water is essential to all life on earth, yet 1 billion people worldwide do not have access to safe clean water and a further 2.4 billion people are affected by poor sanitation.

What can scientists and technologists do to help provide safe, clean water and adequate sanitation and waste water treatment for everyone?

Will saving water in the UK make a difference to drier countries in other parts of the world? What is the impact of the developed world's passion for bottled water? And what will听the impact of our demand for fresh fruit and vegetables all year round be on global water supplies?

Quentin Cooper is joined by water specialist Professor Richard Carter from Cranfield University, Professor Paul Younger, an expert in hydrogeochemical engineering from the University of Newcastle and Professor L谩szl贸 Somly贸dy,Head of the International Water Association to discuss questions from the audience on the political, logistical and technological aspects of providing safe clean water.
